Heap Hope Angels

大概许多人的新年展望都是离不开事业、家庭和金钱。。。

世界宣明会爱心天使叶剑峰曾在今年的饥饿三十营分享：“每个人都有自己的梦想，有些人梦想成为科学家、企业家、警察、教师、等等。。。在某些国度某个角落里，却有些小孩子的梦想是可以三餐温饱、可以有一件比较像样的新衣，而这些梦想对他们来说，是奢侈和遥不可及的。”

有很多人都以为残障朋友需要得到的帮助，不外是金钱上的协助，让他们可以得到适当的医疗服务、收到基本的教育、学习一门谋生技巧，然后可以自力更生。。。可是，他们却忘了残障朋友要可以真正的自力更生，需要的何止是金钱上的协助，还要有俱全的交通设备，让他们可以出入方便；要有一个无障碍的空间，让他们可以“行动”自如；更要有社交的权力，让他们可以活得更自信！这也是许多残障朋友的梦想，而这些梦想对他们来说，也是奢侈的、也是遥不可及的！

有一部分的人可能会认为，要当天使（志工）就必须要很有爱心、时间、精力和金钱，才可以协助有需要的人；换句话说，要当天使就必须要付出很多，因此，这些想当天使的人就裹足不前，因为害怕做不到一般人认为天使应该做的事件。

我们都忽略了，其实只要每个人肯付出那么一点点，每天为身边的人、有需要的人付出一点点，哪怕只是协助一个老人家或小孩子过马路、捡起路边的垃圾丢入垃圾桶、收集回收品送到回收站、跟残障人士交个朋友。。。只要每天可以做一些为其他人增值的事情，这个世界将会更美好！这就是“动力天使” （Heap Hope Angels）的精神。

What do I need to learn?

Break through – self discovery, fear challenges, communication
Teamwork – teambuilding, relationship
Management – fundraising, resources, emotion quotient (EQ)
Leadership – public speaking, motivation, commitment

Pre-requisite of volunteers

Benevolence – being compassionate at all times (24/7)
Sincerity – giving out of love without asking for return
Flexibility – fluid with the change of environment
Non-judgmental – everyone is equal
Perseverance – being committed and never give up

Where are you now?

Being a volunteer is not as easy as 123. They need to be compassionate in the areas they volunteer in, to be resourceful to source around for financial assistance, to be skillful in serving the NGOs. We can pick up all these attributes while serving the NGOs, in another word, on the job training, or through a series of training workshops conducted by the experienced volunteers or front line workers.

In Heap Hope Angels, we aspire to serve and add value to the universe in our movements.

在大约一个月前，Serena在facebook里开了一个Pages，叫Do Something。
她把link send给我后，我便加入成为fans了。
那时候，我是第3位fans，也是第一位残障朋友。

在这之前，我已大概知道Serena想和几位义工朋友开始一个义工团队，为社会服务。
对于这个义工团队，我是非常的认同和支持的。
但是，有谁愿意去开始呢？
我看到了已经有人默默在耕耘，一步一步的把这个团队的架构建立起来。

刚刚开始，我还质问自己，我可以做些什么呢？
于是，我贡献了我的一篇文章。（呵呵，这也是叫Do Something哦！）
虽然，只是举手之劳，但这也许只是我们的一个开始。
当你不懂你能为这个社会做些什么的时候，我们需要的是您那份参与感。
当您愿意以那真诚的心来参与我们后，你自然会晓得你能付出些什么。

我发现，这个社会好多人都会觉得生活仿佛缺乏了意义。
就连我自己，偶尔也会有那样的感触。
我常常告诉自己，如果要让生命充满价值，一定要为这个社会付出一些。
不然，感觉自己好像一无是处。

非常高兴，Serena让我有机会，担任一个小小的角色–网管。
这也是我可以胜任的工作。
我觉得还蛮轻松的，因为很多东西她都自己去负责。:P
只有在面对技术上的问题，才会找我帮忙。
但是，虽然只是少少的付出，却能让她完成她所想要做的东西，也是值得欣慰的。

我希望，大家一起来努力，一人付出那么一点点，把这个组织越滚越大。
只要大家愿意用行动来支持，没有什么是不可以的。

Formation of Do Something

The initial concept emerged from a casual conversation between William and I while returning from a speaking engagement, where we spoke about volunteerism in the Malaysian context. The concept of volunteerism is relatively new in Malaysia, and many NGOs are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit, manage and retain volunteers.

Therefore, the whole idea of forming this organization is to relieve them (NGOs) of their burdens and take it upon ourselves to provide an efficient “mechanism” or system for volunteer management.

We have been working on this idea and recruiting committees and members. The team has established :

The name of Do Something

That is to encourage everyone to “Do Something” to make a difference to others. If everyone can actually make a small move to help each others, we believe that the world will be getting better and better.

FUNtastic Volunteers Training

In conjunction with International Volunteer Day on 5th December, the team will be organising its very first event FUNtastic Volunteers Training :

• Date : 6th & 7th December 2008 (Saturday) & (Sunday)
• Time : 9:00am – 5:00pm
• Participant Fee : RM 50 per person (including food & beverage, t-shirt)

The kick off meeting on this event is scheduled on 14th September 2008 (Sunday), it is also the mid autumn day. Very thankful to this dedicated team of committees that willing to sacrifice their valuable time on this special day.
